Ranked as the sixth best beach in the UK. Backed by sand dunes and framed by rocky promontories, Mellon Udrigle is one of the most attractive pieces of coastline in Wester Ross. With clear, turquoise water and clean white sand, the beach is spectacular in itself without its stunning location and views.
To get there, turn off the A832 at Laide Post Office and follow the single-track road for several miles, past Achgarve and down the hill to Mellon Udrigle. There is a car park after the campsite.

One of the most unique features of Mellon Udrigle Beach is its ever-changing landscape. Due to the effects of the tides and the prevailing winds, the sand on this beach often shifts, creating different formations and patterns. This dynamic environment provides a fresh look with each visit.

Slaggan Bay beach
8 minutes drive to car park/3 hour round trip walk
Slaggan Bay is known for its seclusion and natural beauty. It is not easily accessible by car, which helps maintain its untouched charm. To reach the beach, visitors walk or mountain bike, which helps preserve its peaceful atmosphere.
The 2.5 to 3 hour walk begins at a small parking area near the end of a minor road past Laide. From here, a well-defined, mostly level track leads toward the abandoned village of and eventually the beach.
As you near , you’ll pass ruined croft houses, remnants of the small settlement abandoned in the early 20th century.

Home to the ruins of a former crofting village known as . In the 18th century, was renowned for a certain resident named 'The Great Bard of ', Mr. Alexander Grant, who was noted for his "enormous stature and strength" rather than his poetic abilities.

Gruinard Beach

Gruinard Bay, nestled on the rugged west coast of Scotland, is a hidden gem of natural beauty and a geologist dream. The Bay has three stunning, pink sand beaches, where the waves gently lap at the shore, and the surrounding hills provide a stunning backdrop.

Head north and then east on on A832 for approximately 5 miles, keeping the bay on your left-hand side. You'll reach a small parking area on the oppisite side of the road near the beach. Access is via a mildly steep set of stairs.
INTERESTING FACT:
Nearby Gruinard Island was used for biological warfare testing during World War II. In 1942, the British government conducted experiments with anthrax on the island to assess its potential as a weapon. Due to contamination, Gruinard remained off-limits for decades and was only declared safe in 1990.

Firemore Beach

Firemore Beach, near Poolewe in the Scottish Highlands, is a stunning and secluded sandy beach with breathtaking views across Loch Ewe.

Follow the B8057 north of Poolewe towards Cove until you reach Firemore Beach. Parking is on the left hand side.
You should also consider a visit to the Cove Light Anti Aircraft Battery from WW2 further along the road.

Drive through Gairloch and towards Charlestown. Once you arrive at the beach, you'll find a parking area in the nearby golf club, just a short walk from the shoreline.
INTERESTING FACT:
The name "Gairloch" comes from the Gaelic "Geàrr Loch", meaning "short loch." However, the area has Viking influences, as Norse settlers once controlled much of the western Scottish coast.

Red Point Beach

Red Point Beach is a hidden paradise with its striking red-hued sands and crystal-clear waters. Surrounded by dramatic cliffs and scenic hills, it offers a practically untouched, peaceful, unspoiled retreat perfect for beach walks and soaking in nature's beauty.
For beach hunters, there are also two nearby beaches, Craigsmere beach and Opinan beach.
At Badachro there is the must visit Badachro Inn. Here you might also consider horse riding with the nearby Gairloch Trekking center.
Drive through Gairloch, heading south on the A832. Take the turnoff for Shieldaig/Red Point, which will be sign posted. Follow this road for a few miles, passing through Badachro, until you reach Red Point Beach where you will find a small parking area.

The beach scenes in the 2014 movie What We Did On Our Holiday were filmed at Redpoint. The movie stars David Tennant, Billy Connolly, and Rosamund Pike.
